SARASOTA, FL (WWSB) - Lots of great events this weekend. Geirs Market brings Old Germany to the Suncoast with Oktoberfest in Westgate Sarasota Square Mall.
It's under the big tent in the parking lot at Westgate Sarasota Square Mall Friday thru Sunday. Lots of German beer, German food, singing, dancing, games and activities.
Admission is free.
Steve McAllister plays Will Rogers in a Vaudeville style version of Will Rogers life story. "Will Rogers Follies" opens at the Players Center this week.
Steve says, "It's got all the showiness Ziegfeld had in his Follies Shows with all the dancers and the music and the elaborate costumes. But it also has that down home humor of Will Rogers out there just doing rope tricks and just telling jokes. This is a skewed version of his life."
It has some great belly laughs, mixed with down to earth wisdom. The Will Rogers Follies at the Players Center September 28th thru October 15th.
September 30th is the Annual "Public Lands Day." Oscar Shearer State Park is celebrating with fun activities, live music , and projects where you can get involved cleaning up the park. It's Saturday from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Admission is free.
There's a brand new event on the Bay behind the Van Wezel this weekend. It's a celebration of the World Rowing Championships, called "Celebrate a Sarasota Sunset on the bay" .
Sue Stewart, Mission Manager for Sarasota Bayfront Planning Organization says, "It features live music. The band will be "Yesterdaze", and the West Coast Black Theatre Troupe will be singing and dancing, and lighting up the stage. Lots of spectators will also be on their feet laughing and dancing and having a great time. It's a time to really celebrate our community, our famous sunsets and the World Rowing Championship."
It's Saturday 4 to 8 pm, rain or shine. If it rains, the celebration will just move inside the Van Wezel. Admission is free.
