If you're looking for a mother's day gift or you want to entertain mom this weekend. head out to the annual Bradenton Sarasota Rose Festival. .
It's at Phillippi Estate Mansion Saturday from 10 to 3.
Diane Celeste, a member of the Society says, "We are going to have all the roses that grow in Florida. Our membersa re coming and bringing their roses. We'll have a display of all the kinds of the roses all the colors of the roses that you can grow here, some with fragrance, some with out fragrance."
Vincent and Diane Celeste, like many of the members of the Bradenton Sarasota Rose Society grow roses in their yard. The Celeste's have over 100 varieties. Society members will be passing on their knowledge and expertise at the festival.
Vincent Celeste says, "We are going to have classes on how to care for roses. We are going to have Mothers Day bouquets and vases , and we will have the rose bushes to purchase from a guy in Tampa who has been doing this 45 years."
And calling all kids 14 years old and younger. You are invited to participate in a free fishing tournament. It's put on by Sarasota County, and t's going to be here on Nokomis Beach on Saturday.."
It starts at 8 am Jamal Edwards, from Sarasota County Parks and Recreation says, "We will supply the bait, the children and their families will bring their fishing polls and other fishing gear that they need.
you can call or go on line at a Sarasota Co. Parks and Recreation to register in advance, or just show up Saturday morning.
Jamal says, " The kids will be on the beach. They will cast into the Gulf. It's catch and release.We will measure and hand out trophies for biggest, most unusual fish, most fish and first fish caught.".
Also on Saturday the 9th Annual Harvey Milk Festival is coming to downtown Sarasota.
Founder and President Shannon Fortner says, "
"We have 11 bands from across the country that will be coming and performing on this beautiful stag in the heart of downtown Sarasota at 5 Points Park. 3 streeets around will be closed off.
And you can walk on the wild side at Repticon Sarasota Saturday.
There will be hundreds of reptiles, amphibians, spiders and small exotic animals on display. You can choose a pet and get everything you need to take care of him. It's from 10 to 5 at the Potter building at the Sarasota County Fairgrounds.
