SARASOTA, FL. (WWSB) - An exclusive group of Suncoast women were chosen for the trip of a lifetime, all to celebrate their Jewish heritage.
The Jewish federation of Sarasota has partnered with the Jewish Women's Renaissance Project to attend a ten day journey across their homeland as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen their religious values.
To be eligible, the women must be mothers with a child under the age of 18 who are raising their child Jewish.
The group of twenty women will visit popular sites like Tel Aviv, The Dead Sea and synagogues across Israel and Jerusalem, but will also gain educational resources on their visit to help teach their religion and cultural aspects to other generations.
"It's a great way to get the women together in the community, it's a great way to share Jewish values, introduce Judaism to those who aren't as religious as others, and to bring it back to our children, our husbands, and to our family and friends," said Debbie Sanford, Program Associate with the Jewish Federation of Sarasota.
This is the first time the Jewish Federation of Sarasota has taken this trip, but they hope to attend again next year.
They also are looking to expand the trip to Jewish fathers who wish to strengthen their values as well.
