MANATEE COUNTY, FL (WWSB) - More than a dozen lucky shelter pets have found their new 'furever' homes thanks to the Manatee County's Animal Services "Gotcha Day."
Six dogs and nine cats were adopted Saturday at the event that offered promotional discounts on adoption fees while also commemorating the day new pet parents can say it was the day “We Gotcha from the Shelter.”
Hans Wohlgefahrt, Outreach and Events Specialist at MCAS, says discounts catch people's attention, but the main goal was to pair people with the right pet.
"I think that discounts may capture someone's attention and bring them to the shelter to see our choice of pets," said Wohlgefahrt via email. "Ultimately, we want to make sure that we make the best matches and the adopters understand the lifelong commitment and responsibilities of having a pet."
With a total of 15 pets adopted Wohlgefahrt believes the shelter accomplished that goal.
Next on animal services' calendar is their annual Adopt-A-Palooza, held on Aug. 4, 2018, at the Bradenton Area Convention Center.
Manatee County's largest adoption event will feature pets from MCAS and area rescues plus an expanded pet-expo for everything a pet owner might require.
