SARASOTA, FL. (WWSB) - A somber and emotional moment this morning at Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport as a soldier's body was returned home to his family.
Major Daniel Doyle was discovered in an industrial area in Italy last Friday.
He was reported missing four days earlier when he didn't show up for work.
Major Doyle, who was just 32, was a National Guardsmen from Sarasota and was two months into a six-month deployment with the U.S. Army's African Operations section.
As he was brought to his family, his casket draped with the American flag.
The pilots of the plane who brought him home said, "It's always an honor and the sad part about it is there's usually a family left behind, so to see his wife and his two young daughters is very emotional," said 1st Officer David Smith and Captain Casey Calkins.
"It is very nice to see the passengers, both on the plane and in the terminal, standing quietly to watch the ceremony," they continued to say.
The cause of Major Doyle's death is under investigation by Italian authorities and the US military.
