NORTH PORT, FL (WWSB)- It's almost time to play ball in north port!
The new braves spring training facility is right on track, and this weekend you can see the progress.
West Village Improvement District Chairman, Martin Black, said construction is well on its way, "Constructions going gangbusters, we've got anywhere from 300 to 500 folks working out on the various job sites here."
The new stadium will be on 90 acres of land, have seven fields, a LED scoreboard, and 8,000 seats.
To celebrate what's to come, North Port is throwing a party this Saturday.
The launch party will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the George Mullen Activity Center.
"We'll have life size bobble heads, food and games and stuff for the family so it's just an opportunity for people to come out and talk baseball and ask a lot of questions," Said Mike Dunn, who is the VP of Florida Operations for the Braves.
Fans can also see renderings of the stadium and purchase tickets.
"There's many perks and benefits to the season tickets whether it's movie night, or kick ball night or whatever happens at the stadium," Dunn said.
Construction of the stadium is on schedule and it is set to be complete by the end of this year.
The braves will play their last game of the 2019 spring training season at the new field.
People with the Braves say they have received lots of calls about the stadium and fans seem excited, so they expect a good turnout on Saturday.
