Lynn Robbins has been a top Sarasota realtor for 44 years.
"A high for me is when I find somebody a home they love and they become friends. "
She grew up in Pennsylvania and graduated from Pennsylvania State. Robbins got a job teaching speech and drama in New Jersey. She married and had two children. Then , she followed her parents to Sarasota. She went into real estate, owned her own company and eventually merged with Caldwell Banker.
In 1979, she and her first husband divorced.
"People were saying, 'oh Lynn the only way you're going to meet a man is to go to a bar.' I said that's not my style."
So she started a club for single professionals.
"Two weeks after my divorce, we had a party at my house with 60 single men and women that all of us knew and that's how I met Mike."
She and Mike have been married for 33 years and is deeply committed to the Sarasota community.
In 1986, she came up with the idea for engage Sarasota to help new city and county officials and business people get to know Sarasota.
"Every year we start in the fall in September and we have eight luncheons at different business groups and we eat our way through Sarasota."
Robbins is on the board of directors for many local community organizations, including the sheriff's board. She was on the citizens' panel that choose Bernedette Depino as Sarasota's police chief.
Lynn is passionate about getting the city and county to work together. She 's seen the difference it can make.
Her life lesson?
"I think I've learned to be calm, look at peoples' motivations and what they want to do and how to help them get there peacefully to make people happy together."
