SARASOTA, FL - The Common Core State Standards have been adopted by Washington, D.C., and 45 states including Florida.

The goal is to better prepare students for college or a job. Despite a widespread adoption, many parents are unsure of what the standards are.

The standards were also among the topics discussed at the recent education summit in Clearwater, where they came under criticism.

ABC 7 Reporter John McQuiston is taking a closer look at what the standards are, and why some are opposed to them.
