SARASOTA, Fla. - The city will continue with plans to build a new parking garage just off Main Street, despite reports that the project will cost over 50% more than planned.

City commissioners approved a $7.4 million plan last year to build a parking garage at the intersection of State Street and Lemon Avenue, just one block south of Main Street.  Cost overruns on the project now have the cost at $11.3 million.

However, commissioners are split on whether to continue.

ABC 7's Rebecca Yates is looking into the project and will have more tonight on ABC 7 News at 5 & 6.
