The Jacobite Pipe & Drum Band and The First Brass team up this year for the 8th Annual Memorial Day Show on May 25, 2014, 3:00 p.m. at the Church of the Palms, 3224 Bee Ridge Road in Sarasota, FL.
As we celebrate Memorial Day, we will honor veterans from all branches of the military and the First Responders from our local area. We are pleased to have the color guard from the Sarasota County Fire Department participating this year.
The music will be a combination of patriotic, classical and celtic. Something for everyone including: 1812 Overture, God Bless America and Scotland the Brave. Sharon Scott will sing as only Sharon can. She will perform the Star Spangled Banner, Amazing Grace, Battle Hymn of the Republic. Story teller, Bill Schustik will join the Jacobites with his voice and many instruments. We are delighted to have the Riverview High School Highland Dancers perform the Highland Fling and the traditional Sword Dance. We have a couple other surprises up our sleeve that you will have to come see for yourself.
The First Brass and Jacobite Band are partners with The Patterson Foundation, Legacy of Valor. It has been an honor to be a part of this year long endeavor to spread awareness and celebrate Patriot Plaza, the new amphitheater at the Sarasota National Cemetery. Members of the Legacy of Valor team will be present at the concert to share more information about the dedication to be held in June.
Bring your used cell phones to the concert that day. The First Brass is a partner with “Cell Phones for Soldiers”. They collect used cell phones, that are converted to calling minutes, for the active duty personnel to call home for free. You can learn more about that at www.cellphonesforsoldiers.org.
This will be a great event for family and friends to enjoy brass, bagpipes and to show their patriotism. What a fitting way to honor the men and women that have given so much for our country.
Tickets are $15.00 in advance and $20.00 at the door the day of the show. Tickets are available at www.TheFirstBrass.org or you can contact Nance Guth at 941-928-0296 (email@example.com) to make arrangements for “will call” tickets in advance. Tickets are also available at the Church of the Palms office through Friday, 5-23.
