World Environment Day

The United Nations has designated 2014 “The International Year of Small Island Developing States.” To better clarify the challenges and vulnerabilities faced by these small island states, the organization commissioned an in-depth study that will include the potentially damaging effects of climate change and rising ocean levels. Results of the study will be released during a press conference on World Environment Day, June 5, 2014, in Sarasota.

A Community Forum will follow the press conference at 10:30am, with local and international representatives discussing topics such as ecotourism, the green economy, sea level rise and the value of local ecosystem services.

Both the press conference and the roundtable will be held at Mote Marine Laboratory. The public is encouraged to attend the Community Forum to learn more about local and global actions to protect our environment.
