The Sarasota parade will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11 at Main Street and Osprey Avenue. The route will travel west along Main Street to Chaplain JD Hamel Park on Gulfstream Avenue. Marching units will include local veteran's service organizations, law enforcement agencies and fire departments and their color guards; marching bands and Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps units from the local high schools; civic organizations; and historical military equipment.

The theme of the Sarasota parade and ceremony is

"Honoring Those Who Served."

"The parade and ceremony is an opportunity for the citizens of Sarasota to honor not only veterans of the armed services but police officers, sheriff's deputies, fire fighters and emergency medical personnel," said Dan Kunkel, Patriotic Observance Committee president

A ceremony at JD Hamel Park will begin immediately after the parade. The featured speaker will be Michael Burns, who was held as a prisoner of war for five years during the Vietnam War.
