Florida's unemployment rate drops again in the month of April. New numbers from the state show Florida's jobless rate dropping to 4.5%. That's slightly lower than numbers from March when the rate was 4.8%
Florida's unemployment rate remains slightly higher than the national rate. Here on the Suncoast, both Manatee and Sarasota counties remain under 4% for April. Manatee leads the way with a 3.6% jobless rate, .3 lower than the month before. Sarasota County's unemployment rate now stands at 3.7%, down from 4% in March.
Florida added 10,900 jobs in April, which put it behind several other states in the nation. But the state's overall job growth rate in the past year is among the highest in the nation.
Monroe County in the Florida Keys had the state's lowest unemployment rate at 2.6 percent.
