VENICE. FL - The 25th annual Venice Christmas Boat Parade will be setting sail Saturday night. Chairs are already lining the Intercoastal waterway through Nokomis and into Venice. Some have been there since Monday.

It's estimated upwards of 60,000 people come to check out the lighted vessels along the route. The silver anniversary almost didn't happen. It took a last minute pitch to make sure there were enough boats. It surely would have been a loss to nearby businesses and those who come to enjoy all the lights says organizer John Osmulski. "I think it is a lot greater then anybody realizes. With the crowds we have because we start in Nokomis and come up through Venice the land parades can't even touch it."

The parade will start at 6pm. It begins near the Albee road bridge in Nokomis and comes partially out the jetty, then through Roberts Bay and all the way down to just north of the circus bridge on the island of Venice.

Check back later for our full report or tune into ABC 7 at 5:30 this evening.
