Police in St. Petersburg say a wannabe burglar targeted the Mobile Gas Station on 34th Street South around 5:30am on January 24 and thought he could break in by throwing a brick through the front door.
The sheriff's office was called to Brooklyn Avenue in Port Charlotte on Sunday after reports came in of a man possibly having a diabetic attack. When they arrived, there were two people in the driveway, 33-year-old Russell Gerow and 26-year-old Jessica Vandegaart.
Brenson Stephens of St. Petersburg was convicted last week by a jury after a three-day trial. The victim lived in Sarasota County and the jury saw text messages from Stephens to his ex-girlfriend, the victim's mother, where he admitted sexually abusing the girl.
The sheriff's office says this is how the scheme worked: 29-year-old Wilfredo Lopez of Miami would provide counterfeit checks to 22-year-old Eliener Castano-Paredes of Wesley Chapel, who then would recruit people to cash them while Lopez and Castano-Paredes kept a percentage.
Stephanie McNabb was shot inside a home on the 1100 block of 17th Avenue West around 1am Sunday morning. The 41-year-old was semi-conscious when officers arrived. She was rushed to Blake Medical Center, but despite life-saving efforts, she died.
