I remember at a very early age setting up my first rain gauge. I did not know it would be the beginning of a life long passion for measuring and forecasting weather.  During my thirty year career in weather I have meet many folks that share my love for meteorology.  Some are in the field but many are enthusiasts who make it a hobby.

For the folks that think setting up a back yard weather station is a fun, entertaining and enlightening activity that can be done alone or with the family, I have good news.  There is a nation wide group of people just like yourselves who are recording rainfall and contributing to a data base that has important scientific significance.

Sponsored by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Science Foundation the Community Collaborative Rain,Hail and Snow Network (or CoCoRaHS) is a non-profit network of volunteers of all ages and backgrounds.  They are trained in the proper way to take measurements and turned loose to make recordings whenever there is a weather event.  The only requirement is a love for weather and desire to contribute to weathercasting.

The data gathered is used by The Weather Service, private meteorologists like myself, emergency managers, water management, mosquito control, researchers and farmers and many others.  You will also be is a great position to become a WWSB weather watcher!

If this sounds like your cup of tea then just pop me an email and I will get you the information you need.
