Rick Scott loses bid to disqualify justice

TALLAHASSEE (AP) - The Florida Supreme Court is rejecting Governor Rick Scott's push to disqualify a sitting state Supreme Court justice from a pending case.

The court denied Scott's motion in a one-sentence ruling today, but they didn't give an explanation for the decision.

Last week, Scott filed a motion that contends Justice Barbara Pariente may be biased against the Republican governor. The motion is based on comments made by Pariente, including one caught on a microphone following a recent hearing in a case over Scott's appointment power.

Groups who are suing Scott in the case asked the court to reject the "frivolous" motion.

John Tupps, a spokesman for Scott, called it "disappointing that today's decision was made without providing any plausible justification or explanation for Justice Pariente's comments."
