CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Forecasters say it looks like Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, will get the worst of Tropical Storm Arthur, which could be a hurricane early Friday morning. The storm is expected to move up the coast rapidly. At last report, Arthur was about 105 miles east-northeast of Cape Canaveral. A tropical storm warning is in effect for the entire North Carolina coast.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — A 59-year-old man killed by Jacksonville police was likely trying to commit suicide by cop. Detectives say Michael Jones Keys Sr. had called 911 yesterday threatening to kill himself and others. Despite commands to drop his weapon, authorities say Keys raised the gun at the closest officer.
NEW YORK (AP) — Cincinnati-based Kroger is buying online vitamin seller Vitacost.com. Kroger says deal is valued at $280 million. The supermarket chain says Vitacost.com will help it expand online. Vitacost.com is based in Boca Raton. The deal is expected to close in the third quarter.
ISLAMORADA, Fla. (AP) — After 31 days undersea, Fabien Cousteau says he's torn about leaving his underwater home, but he misses his family and friends. Cousteau and his team of filmmakers and scientists dove June 1 to Aquarius to study the effects of climate change and pollution on a nearby coral reef.
