Gruden: 'Good chance' he'll coach Raiders...Chiefs put Gaines on IR...Tide's Jennings to miss championship game

ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — Jon Gruden has told ESPN Radio he had a good talk with Oakland Raiders owner Mark Davis about returning to the organization for a second stint as coach and believes there is a "good chance" it will happen. He would replace Jack Del Rio, who was fired after a disappointing six-win season. Gruden coached Oakland from 1998-2001. He has been out of coaching the past nine years while serving as ESPN's analyst for "Monday Night Football."

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Chiefs have placed cornerback Phillip Gaines on injured reserve, possibly ending his time in Kansas City. Gaines dislocated his elbow in last weekend's game against Denver. The former third-round pick is not under contract next season and may have played his final game for the Chiefs. Kansas City signed defensive tackle Stefan Charles ahead of its playoff game against Tennessee. Charles has spent time with the Jaguars, Bills and Lions.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Bills running back LeSean McCoy missed practice today because of a right ankle injury. The Bills' top offensive threat was hurt during Sunday's win at Miami. It's uncertain whether he'll play this Sunday at Jacksonville in Buffalo's first playoff game in 18 years.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Alabama starting linebacker Anfernee Jennings says he will miss the national championship game against Georgia with a left knee injury sustained in the semifinals. Jennings says on Twitter that he had successful surgery and will have an MRI on Friday. Linebackers Shaun Dion Hamilton and Dylan Moses are also out for the game with injuries.

AUBURN, Ala. (AP) — Auburn cornerback Carlton Davis is skipping his senior season to enter the NFL draft. The second-team Associated Press All-American announced his decision in a Twitter post today, thanking Auburn fans for their support. Davis had 36 tackles, 11 pass breakups and an interception this season. He is projected as an early-round pick.
