A tragic side effect of the opioid epidemic in the nation and the Sun Coast in particular is the number of children of addicted parents who find themselves placed in foster care. Bradenton Police are on the front lines in both instances.
For years the members of the department have taken it upon themselves to collect Christmas Toys for less fortunate children, and this year, the department says all the toys donated will be handed out to kids in foster care.
Donated toys should be unwrapped and dropped off at the main police station at 100 Tenth Street West. The department says they collect for all ages, from infants to teenagers.
This year's toy drive runs through December 10th. They'll be handed out on December 16th.
