Community leaders discuss promoting local economy

Updated:

SARASOTA COUNTY - Some local business and community leaders aren't waiting for Washington to help stimulate the economy.  They're trying to come up with ways to do it themselves.

Close to 200 people from different backgrounds met for a summit Friday.  They packed a large room and came packed with ideas.  Actual things they can do to get business moving in Sarasota County.

There were business owners, city commissioners, representatives from local colleges and just average citizens who believe they need to be doing more.

So here are some of their ideas.  They want to make Sarasota County Florida's leader in clean energy technology, an environmental approach.  And promote Sarasota County as an innovative place in Florida.  Along with that, attract new and grow businesses.  And create a plan to keep students who go to the community's colleges and universities...here, instead of getting jobs elsewhere.

They think this is how they will help the stimulate the local economy.
