SARASOTA - A special delivery was made on the Suncoast Tuesday night; The Crissman Quads have been born.
Mom and babies are said to be doing well at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Kevin and Sarah Crissman have a two-year-old daughter, and their family of three just became a family of seven. Just born: three boys and one girl. As you can imagine, they are going to have their work cut out for them.
In a matter of three minutes, the quadruplets were born. Weighing in at a little more than two pounds each, they were born 12 weeks premature.
We first met up with the Crissman's back in May, when Sarah was 18 weeks pregnant. The Crissman's reaction when they heard they were having multiples? Shock. "I was completely speechless, I collapsed on the ground. After the shock wore off I was ok, ok we can do this," says Kevin Crissman.
"I was scared; Very risky to have 4 babies. I also know the risk to the babies," said Sarah Crissman.
Risky, but also rare. The odds of have quadruplets is almost one in a million; Especially when the Crissman's did it the old fashion way - no fertility needed.
Now that the babies are here, the work begins. The Crissman's say they are expecting to go through 279 diapers and 167 bottles per week. It might have been a busy night at the hospital, but no doubt the Crissman's will become even busier.
We broke the baby news Wednesday at noon and tried to get an interview with the family, but no one was available. They will have a press conference Thursday.
