SARASOTA - The popular and controversial statue known as "Unconditional Surrender" is coming back to the Suncoast.
The 26-foot statue of a sailor embracing a nurse was displayed along Sarasota's Bayfront two years ago as part of the season of sculpture.
According to The Pelican Press, Sarasota city commissioners have invited the artist to bring the sculpture back.
A non-profit group will pay nearly $67,000 to ship the piece to Sarasota.
So far, there are two suggestions on where it could be placed. One is at Payne Park. Another suggestion is in front of the old Sarasota High School, which is earmarked to become a contemporary art museum.
