SARASOTA - Ethan's passion in life is the Cincinnati Reds, so his wish was to watch them play ball in the intimate setting of the Red's spring training camp in Sarasota, FL.
Before the game started, Ethan and his family were treated to watching the Red's team warm up, seated directly behind the catcher's mound. Several members of the team came out to greet Ethan, each signing a game ball given to him for this special occasion. But an even bigger surprise was that Ethan was chosen to throw out the first pitch of the game!
Ethan left the stadium with the satisfaction of watching his team tie the New York Yankees in the first game and win the second game against the Tigers.
Ethan will always cherish these memories of seeing and meeting his favorite team up close and personal. Besides the baseball games, Ethan and his family experienced local attractions such as the beaches and Busch Gardens, providing them all with a much needed break away from his hospital stays. Ethan had been diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma and as a result needed to endure many treatments.
For a child like Ethan, battling a life-threatening illness can be both scary and draining. A wish experience can help give back what the illness takes away. It can help a child forget about being sick, remember how to be a kid again and help inspire them to keep making plans for the future. You can help us grant further wishes by supporting a fundraiser walk, Walk for Wishes, to be held on May 17th, 2008 at Payne Park in Sarasota from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon. This will be a fun-filled event for the entire family.
