BRADENTON - On Thursday just after noon, it was noticed that a tomb that was damaged.
A witness said that you could see the body of the deceased that was buried years ago. The witness advised that the damaged tomb was located inside the Mayor Adam's Cemetery at 300 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
The officer received no further information from the witness and he left the area. The officer went to the cemetery and looked for possible damaged tombs. Approx. 20 feet west of the entrance, the officer saw a raised cement tomb that was broken. He walked toward that unmarked gravesite and looked through the hole. Looking through the hole the officer noticed the remains of the dead person that was buried there years ago.
As the officer looked around the area of the gravesite, he saw items that appeared to be of witchcraft. Near the tombstone, he saw two one-dollar, two loose Newport cigarettes, spare change, burned candles, a black cross and a large unknown item wrapped in a black blanket. The blanket appeared to have been burned.
Detective Konieczka with CSI responded to the scene and took photos of the suspicious items. The CSI untied the black blanket and unveiled what was wrapped inside: a dead rooster with its legs all broken and safety pins were pinned all over the rooster's body. A note was located near the rest of the items. The note had similar string in it that matched the string that was used to tie the rooster. On the note a name was written along with the word, "liberations of". The name would not be released pending investigation.
It is unknown who may have left these items behind, and what their intentions were.
The exact motivation for this crime is not positive and it is undetermined if the breaking of the tomb had any connection to the suspicious items.
City of Bradenton public works employees sealed the tomb. The rooster was disposed of.
It should be noted that this may have happed Wednesday night, the same night of the full moon and eclipse.
