With a Ida to the south and high pressure to our north tightening up the pressure gradient, which has brought windy conditions to the Suncoast. That made for some tough fishing conditions, but through persistance, Jonnie was able to finally find some fish.

Jonnie finally made it safely back to the Suncoast after a 2-month journey through the Appalachians, to Cape Cod. @It's always nice to get away for vacation and then come back home to paradise. You realize how blessed we are living right here in SW Florida.

Bob had the chance to visit an old spot he used to fish many years ago. It's located on the north end of Siesta Key. In fact, Capt. Jonnie used to drive by on his boat and give me a shout out every so often. So Bob decided to see if anything was happening there Thursday night.

Since Jonnie has been on vacation, Bob has had the opportunity to visit several fishing spots around the Suncoast, from the Venice Pier to the Anna Maria Fishing Pier. Tonight he decide to check out a popular fishing spot, the north jetty in Nokomis and found a lot of folks who enjoy fishing...and watching ABC 7.

The 5 fishermen who were recently saved by the Coast Guard off the southwest coast of Florida reminds us that it's important to have all the right gear when heading offshore to catch the big ones.
It reminded Bob of a recent trip he took with his friend Pat Ritchie and his 1st mate Shane made a while back. Having the right gear made for a more enjoyable trip, and they caught some huge fish.

Well as Tropical Storm Danny is expected to head away from Florida, and maybe towards the part of the U.S. where Capt. Jonnie is vacationing, Bob decided to visit a fishing pier that was torn up by a storm named Gabrille back in 2001, and is back better than ever since reopening in 2004.

The 25th annual Suncoast Super Boat Grand Prix festival is in full swing. The weather worked out for Thursday night's parade, but more importantly also for the "Friendliest Catch" fishing tournament for the mentally and physically challenged Thursday morning. Each year, Capt. Jonnie plays and important role, and this year it was a little bigger.

Thankfully the heat wave broke just in time for this week's fishing trip. We had a nice breeze and plenty of cloud cover to keep things a bit cooler. While the weather may have cooled somewhat, the fishing remains hot.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission recently came out with their bi-weekly red tide report. Out of 48 samples, they only found a hint of the micro-organism. Red tide has been mostly absent for a very long time, which is great news for area anglers.

Each summer for over a decade, Capt. Jonnie has given up his time and boat to take kids fishing who normally wouldn't be able to do so...for free. That program is about to kick off now that school's out. This week, Jonnie treats his grandchildren and a friend to a fishing adventure that some lucky kids could possibly do as well.

It's week two of the oldest trapon tournament in Florida. It's been around since John Ringling was catching silver kings with his friend Powell Crosely 79 years ago. Thursday Bob had a chance to get a few tips from two of the event organizers.
