Anchor's son charged with choking girlfriend

Updated:

Hillsborough County-  The son of WFLA-TV anchor Bob Hite is accused of choking his live-in girlfriend of only one week.

28 year old Tyler Hite is charged with domestic battery by strangulation, a third class felony.

Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies arrested Hite at his home in Apollo Beach last Thursday.  He was released from the Orient Road Jail on his on recognizance the next day.

The sheriff's office says Hite and his girlfriend got into an argument after they dropped her children off at school.  He stopped his truck and made her get out.

A witness told deputies when Hite's girlfriend arrived home he grabbed her by the throat and dragged her down the driveway.  The witness says when the couple went inside Hite pushed her and grabbed her neck.

Bob Hite, who's retiring from the anchor desk this month, told TBO.com "I have no relationship with him anymore, and I haven't for some time," the longtime WFLA anchor said. "I don't know what to tell you."
