Students raise money for Humane Society of Sarasota

SARASOTA - Some Fruitville Elementary students collected their pennies for animals in need.

On Friday, the students presented a $70 check to the Humane Society of Sarasota County.

The students raised the money through their "RRR'd" program. If they are respectful, responsible or resourceful they get a yellow sticker and a penny. The penny goes in a jar and they add up.

Students learn good lessons about being good citizens and helping others as well.

"It made me feel good to give the dogs some money to help them get homes and get more supplies for food," says student Taylor McVaugh.

Once a month the pennies for the children's' good deeds are tallied up and all the money goes to the Humane Society.
