TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - A Gibsonton man has been convicted of killing an 83-year-old woman while street racing in 2007.

A Hillsborough County jury found 39-year-old Roger Lee Yeager guilty Wednesday of vehicular homicide in the February 2007 death of Vertis Ryan. He was also convicted of felony street racing and reckless driving for seriously injuring Ryan's husband.

Witnesses testified that Yeager and Michael Anthony Smith were racing when the Ryans turned in front of them, and Yeager was unable to avoid the crash.

An accident reconstruction expert estimated Yeager and Smith were traveling more than 100 mph before the crash.

Yeager faces up to 21 years in prison at his Nov. 13 sentencing.

Smith is already serving a 3-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to similar charges.
