GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) - A central Florida man has pleaded no contest to beating his girlfriend and her son with a baseball bat.

Alachua County prosecutors say 46-year-old Daniel Steven Fucci pleaded no contest Monday to attempted murder, aggravated child abuse and felony fleeing and attempting to elude. Prosecutors are seeking a 50-year prison sentence.

Deputies found the woman and her then-7-year-old son seriously injured at their Archer home in June 2008. Fucci was arrested some time later after crashing his vehicle in Levy County. Authorities say the couple had been arguing about finances before the attack.

Fucci sentencing is set for November.
