SARASOTA - A Sarasota bank robber is captured after getting away cash and causing two schools to go into lockdown.

Sheriff's deputies say 31-year-old Joseph Colanuono robbed the Bank of America at Bee Ridge Road and Beneva Monday afternoon.

Nearby Wilkinson Elementary and SCTI's campus were locked down for about an hour while deputies searched for him.

During the evening hours after viewing the media report of the bank robbery, a witness came forward and contacted the Sarasota Police Department. The witness also identified Colantuano as the bank robber and provided his last known location (a local hotel). With assistance provided by the Sarasota Police Department, Sarasota County Sheriff's detectives were able to locate Colantuano and take him into custody.

Colantuano was cooperative with investigators. As a result, one hundred thirty four dollars and seventy-five cents was recovered from his person and the clothing he wore during the robbery was recovered from a dumpster located close to the area of the bank.

Colantuano was booked into the Sarasota County Jail.
