SARASOTA (WWSB) - Sarasota County Schools has just been given quite the honor from one of the most prestigious universities in the world.
On Tuesday, the University of Cambridge announced it the district won the mid-size district of the year award of 2017-2018.
The university says one of the reasons Sarasota County won is because usually when school districts increase their student entries to take the final course exam, their test scores would go down. But Sarasota County’s did not.
The program, also known as AICE, gives students access to collegiate level courses in high school. Students in the district are currently enrolled at Booker, North Port and Sarasota High Schools.
Most apply for the program before they graduate from the eighth grade. This has not prevented administrators at Sarasota High School have gone above and beyond and seeking out additional students at their school who they think would be capable of passing the advanced courses and exams as well.
There are over 500 schools enrolled in this program across the country and 300 of them are right here in Florida.
