SARASOTA (WWSB) - What’s on your weekend planner?
1. Greek Festival
The Sarasota Greek festival begins on Thurs. Feb 5 until Fri. Feb. 8 located at the St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church on N. Lockwood Ridge Road.
The festival include vendors serving Greek foods, music, dancing and activities for those in attendance to participate. There will be a Kids Zone for children on Fri. Feb 8 through Sun. Feb 10 with a bounce house and slides.
Admission is free for the event, but ticket prices are four dollars.
Parking will be free for each day of the event.
2. Patti LaBelle Concert
The Concert begins 8:00 PM $42-$102 Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall
Patti LaBelle returns to the Van Wezel by popular demand to belt out her soul and R&B classics, pop hits, blues and spirituals.
3. Sarasota Opera
The Sarasota Opera opens it’s 2019 season on Saturday, Feb. 9th with "TuranDdot the story of a lovely princess, and any man seeking her love must answer 3 riddles. If you fail. It’s execution. Does our hero get the girl? You’ll have to find out.
The event begins at 7:00 p.m. Ticket prices range from $39 to $155.

4. 56th Annual Sarasota Shell Show
This weekend Feb. 8th through 10th, the 56th Annual Sarasota Shell Club Show is underway! It’s one of the largest shell shows in the world! You can purchase them, learn how to make the shell crafts, see rare exhibits and learn all about shells, where they come from and how they are formed.
The event is located at the Potter Building at the Sarasota County Fair Grounds.
The 2019 shell show will be:
- Friday, Feb. 8, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.;
- Saturday, Feb. 9: from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and
- Sunday, Feb. 10: from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Potter Building, next to Robarts Arena, 2850 Ringling Blvd, Sarasota, FL.
Admission charge is $5 for adults, $2.50 for students 12-18, and free for kids age 11 and under with a paid adult.

5. Oscars short burns court
While everyone’s catching up for the Oscars on February 24th, did you know all those short films that get awards also play in Suncoast theaters? Burns Court Cinema is playing the live action and animated shorts this Friday, February 8th.
The event begins at 5:00 p.m.
Lakewood Ranch Cinemas will play documentary shorts on Saturday at 11 am. Keep an eye out for our movie guy Matthew Liddell’s thoughts on these films on SuncoastView.com.
6. 30th Annual Gulf Coast Games for Life
Age doesn’t matter! Let’s have fun on the Gulf Coast Games for Life. The Florida Senior Games Series is a multi-sport event program for adults 50 and over. The series consists of events throughout Florida leading up to the Florida Senior Games in December. The Florida Senior Games continues to grow andprovide fun, fellowship, fitness and competition for Florida’s fastest growing age group.
7. Manatee Youth Business Fair
Young entrepreneurs from Manatee County will display their own creating in an outdoor market for community members to enjoy.
The event will be held Sat. Feb. 9, 2019 from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the Rock Bluff Library.
