School bus accident at 14th St W & 66th Ave W

BRADENTON (WWSB) - A driver suffered critical injuries after crashing into the side of a school bus in Bradenton Monday morning.

It happened around 8am on U.S. 41 and 66th Ave W. Troopers say the bus was stopped in the left turn lane, waiting to turn left onto 66th Ave W when a car drifted from the center lane to the left lane and then hit the bus, rotating counterclockwise afterward.

Troopers say the driver of the car, a 76-year-old man from Lakewood Ranch, was critically injured.

The school district says three students were on board the bus and heading to Abel Elementary. Neither the driver or any student was injured, but a 46-year-old bus aide from Bradenton suffered minor injuries.

What caused the crash remains under investigation.
