Palmetto homes broken into and burglarized, suspect remains on the run

PALMETTO (WWSB) - “We pulled up in the driveway and we noticed there was a man standing in our doorway,” said Palmetto resident Keith Peebles.

Frightening moments for Peebles, his wife and their 15-year-old son as they arrived at their 14th Avenue West home late yesterday morning. Their front door had been kicked in.

“He ran outside and ran through the back and he stole multiple items out of the house,” said Peebles.

Those items included jewelry and other very personal belongings. And just blocks away, another home also broken into yesterday in broad daylight. The suspect busted his way through the front door and burglarized that home as well.

“We’re pretty sure both burglaries are committed by the sames person," said Chief Scott Tyler with the Palmetto Police Department. "Both locations are about a mile apart, one is on the south side of 10th Street and one is on the north side of 10th Street.”

Palmetto Police are warning residents to keep all the doors and windows of their homes locked. Peebles describes the suspect as an older white male, about 6 feet tall, weighing 200 pounds and wearing a grey sweater.

“You just feel violated, you know violated,” said Peebles.

If you have any more information on these break-ins you’re being asked to contact Palmetto Police immediately.
