Persons of interest identified, but no arrests yet after ambulance hit by gunfire in Sarasota

Sarasota paramedics shot at while responding to call

SARASOTA (WWSB) - Police continue to investigate a shooting in Sarasota that saw an ambulance struck by gunfire and though persons of interest have been identified, there have been no arrests made yet.

Police say their investigation remains active and ongoing and that detectives are following credible leads to include witness interviews and phone data collection.

The shooting happened Monday, January 7. Two Sarasota County Fire Department paramedics responded to a call at 2932 Goodrich Avenue around 4am for a person who had reportedly fallen. When the paramedics arrived, the resident at the home told paramedics that they had not called for help.

The paramedics started walking back to the ambulance and got inside when a man in a hoodie fired several shots at them, striking the front driver’s side door at least twice.

No one was injured.

The shooter fled on foot and has not been found by police.

Police say they’re looking for the shooter and for who made the initial phone call.
