PARRISH (WWSB) - Some very frightening moments at a home in the Harrison Ranch development in Parrish. The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office called to 100th Drive East around 3:30 this afternoon for a report of a 12-year-old with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“Mom and dad were home at the time, the child was given some CPR efforts,” said Randy Warren, a spokesperson for the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
The boy then airlifted to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital in Saint Petersburg. Teria Belgrave lives a few homes down and is shocked that this happened in her quiet neighborhood. She’s the mother of two daughters.
“It’s very alarming to me, I mean we just recently moved into this community and I have a twelve year-old myself," said Belgrave. "So to think that something like that is actually happening today, it really concerned me.”
We’re being told the boy was home schooled. It’s not known at this time how he got his hands on the gun. His condition is unknown.
The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing with their investigation.
