SARASOTA, Fl (WWSB) - Have you applied for the 2019 Sarasota Police Citizens Academy?

Applications are currently available for citizens to learn more about the Sarasota Police Department K-9 Unit, Criminal Investigations Division, Patrol Division and Traffic Unit.

According to the Sarasota Police Department, participants will get a behind the scenes look at how SPD works and functions. Participants take part training in defensive tactics, traffic stops, K-9, drug awareness, firearms, marine patrol and many other units.

Here is what you need to know:

  • The classes begin Tues. Feb 12, 2019 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. 
  • The Citizen’s Police Academy meets once-a-week, for 10 to 12 weeks, on Tuesdays from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. 
  • Location: Sarasota Police Department Headquarters, 2099 Adams Lane, Sarasota.
  • Applicants must be 18 years of age and have no felony convictions or outstanding warrants.
  • A valid driver’s license is required and applicants are subject to a background check. 
  • Binders and polo shirts will be provided to participants.
