SARASOTA (WWSB) - With Christmas a little over a week away, the Salvation Army is asking for your help. Donations from the Red Kettle campaign in Sarasota and Manatee County are down thousands of dollars. The numbers for volunteers for the Salvation Army are down this year as well.
The money raised through donations goes towards all the important services offered by the Salvation Army, especially during the holidays.
“This time of year we’re certainly helping seniors and children and families with gifts and clothing for children especially," said Major Charles Whiten, with the Salvation Army Sarasota. "And helping people with rental assistance, utility assistance, we’re sheltering and feeding.”
The Red Kettle campaign runs Monday through Saturday at area stores. The last day of the bell ringing will take place on Christmas Eve.
