SARASOTA, FL (WWSB) - 75 years ago "Oklahoma!" hit the Broadway Stage and became one of the most beloved musicals of all time.
State College of Florida is celebrating this anniversary by staging the musical and showing us how it still touches us today just as much as it did 3 quarters of a century ago.
Melodie Dickerson, the Director of SCF Coral and Vocal Studies tells Suncoast View, "Oklahoma! is a big production It has a cast of 25 students who will be accompanied by a 14 piece pit orchestra made up primarily of SCF students and conducted by Theory/Composition Professor, Rex Willis."
She says SCF has a music program that can handle this. "The SCF Music Program is comprised of 8 ensembles including 2 choirs, Bradenton Symphony Orchestra, our symphonic band, big band and two jazz combos and guitar ensemble. Mrs. Lurray Myers is our staff accompanist and is vitally important to our student success."
SCF has done 15 musicals. SCF'S two lead performers in "Oklahoma!", music students Nina Vannucci and Kevin Moroney sing "People Will Say We're in Love".
You can see "Oklahoma!" at State College of Florida Neel Performing Arts Center, October 26 thru the 28th.
